Get Ready for SharePoint 2015

Going forward it is not like we do a traditional migration from FileShare or Lotus notes to SharePoint newer versions. The SharePoint space is changing very rapidly and expected to grow exponentially wider in IT market not just on content management and collaboration.

Before we jump into the expectations on SharePoint 2015, we have to understand certain things.

1. Unlearn some of your SharePoint

Change the way we see SharePoint collaboration space from traditional thinking.
Don’t get me wrong, SharePoint will still be SharePoint, so knowing how it works will still be just as important. But if we’re looking at what's to come and how to get ready to move to the new SharePoint you’ll have to keep an open mind on things. Don’t try to compare everything to how SharePoint worked in the past and fitting everything into a Team Sites. Different situations will require different solutions, no matter what the technology is. Look at Groups for Office 365 and OneDrive for Business to provide that seamless all around Office experience.

2. Get to know OneDrive, Yammer for business

If you are still looking at this as the new “Groove” or “Workspace” then you’re not ready.Understand what is OneDrive for Business to see how it fits with the new collaboration features coming your way. OneDrive for Business is becoming the content and files of the user, from his or her perspective. “I go to my OneDrive to see everything” whether it’s personal or with my Groups at the office or even shared with me from somewhere else. The notion of where the files are specifically will become less important and OneDrive for Business will be the window from which a user looks to get a view of all that he needs to work with. We’re seeing this already with Groups for Office 365 redirecting to OneDrive for Business and the new apps that begin to merge the personal OneDrive with OneDrive for Business. Similarly Yammer play a vital role for your social and organization collaboration activity other than your traditional Mysite available in SharePoint.

3. Keep your eye on 0365-Cloud-Azure terms

The future of SharePoint on premise is completely based on the business success of this terms cloud, azure, O365. We have to be open to accommodate the changes the current IT industry requires, i.e., Cloud. Microsoft is investing more on Cloud and the roadmap looks very strong on that side as well instead of On-Prem SharePoint. Hopefully the next hitting factor in SharePoint world will be O365-Azure-OnPrem combination business and you cannot survive just with On-Prem alone in the wave which is happening now.
